Mosquito fogging scheduled across Oak Island Wednesday and Thursday

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Mosquito fogging is scheduled across Oak Island on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

The Town of Oak Island Public Works Department plans to conduct mosquito fogging operations from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 16 and 17.

On Wednesday, crews are scheduled to treat Zones 1 and 2, which cover areas west of East 40th Street.

On Thursday, fogging is scheduled for Zones 3 and 4, covering areas east of East 41st Street and the mainland.

The town says the treatments are intended to combat growing mosquito populations and will be conducted in accordance with standards from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the North Carolina Pesticide Board.

Residents are asked not to approach the mosquito management vehicle or attempt to stop the driver during operations. According to the town, the fog typically dissipates within five to 30 minutes.

Verified beekeepers registered through the state’s Apiary Program can receive exemptions from fogging operations.

The schedule is dependent on favorable wind and weather conditions. The town says operations could be canceled or rescheduled on short notice.
