Mount Olive College grows in tough times

One North Carolina college is succeeding, and growing, in challenging economic times.

Mount Olive College, which has a Wilmington location that serves 450 students, is expanding. Doctor William Byrd, who has been the college’s president for 14 years, said growth is slightly down from years past, but they plan for more growth in the future. Doctor Byrd will soon step down as president.

“I’m glad to have been a part of it during this time in which it was actually finding its place in the world of higher education. It has created a niche for itself providing opportunities for students who it might not be able to get any place else,” said Byrd.

Mount Olive College has seven locations throughout North Carolina, and serves almost 5,000 students.

Tonight at eleven, we’ll have more on how the college caters to non-traditional students here in Wilmington.
