Multiple agencies searching for missing 25-year-old at Lake Waccamaw

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) — Multiple agencies are searching for a 25-year-old person reported missing in the Lake Waccamaw area, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said it is assisting Lake Waccamaw State Park with the search, which includes personnel from Columbus and Brunswick counties.

Deputies, search and rescue crews, boats, helicopters and a man-tracking team are involved. Search efforts are taking place both on the water and along the shoreline.

Authorities have not released the name of the missing person or details about when or where the person was last seen.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission boat ramp on Canal Cove Road is closed until further notice because of the search.

Officials are asking people to stay off the lake and avoid the boat ramp area so crews can continue searching safely.

The sheriff’s office said it will provide an update when the boat ramp reopens.
