Murder defendant asks that second attorney be removed
WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Nashid Porter, the defendant in the 2012 killing of Brian Grant in Creekwood, will be tried for his life in the subsequent Duplin County killing of a witness in the Grant killing.
Duplin County will proceed capitally against Porter in the November 2014 shooting death of Obediah Hester — a state’s witness who put Porter at the scene of the July 27, 2012, murder of Grant — said New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David.
David’s comments came during a motion hearing Monday in which Porter asked that his court-appointed attorney, Chief Public Defender Jennifer Harjo, be removed from his case. Porter was successful in having his previous attorney Nora Hargrove removed. A change of venue also has been granted in the case and the trial will take place in Pender County.
