N.C. State, Nevada officials to discuss similar logos

RALEIGH (AP) — NC State and Nevada officials plan to discuss their similar logos this week.

Nevada officials tell the Reno Gazette-Journal that they're waiting for a memo from NC State's licensing company, and that a meeting is expected this week.

NC State officials sent an inquiry to the University of Nevada in Reno to find out if 'Toughie' the Wolfpack wolf was being used on Nevada Wolf Pack merchandise.

Nevada's primary logo is completely different from NC State's, but the school also uses a secondary logo that wears a blue top hat.

The Nevada wolf appears on items such as a cookie jar and hat that are sold on the athletics department's Web site.

Kurt Esser, Nevada's associate athletic director of marketing, says the wolf logo in question has been used at Nevada as far back as the 1950s.
