NC diners get hepatitis vaccine after ill worker

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — Cumberland County health officials
have administered more than 2,700 doses of hepatitis A
immunizations after a worker at a local Olive Garden restaurant
came down with the illness.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (http://bit.ly/on7A14) that so
far, the employee is the only confirmed case. People who ate at the
restaurant are urged to watch for signs of the illness and contact
a doctor if they get sick.

Starting Friday, people who ate or worked at the restaurant July
29 and 31 and Aug. 1, 2 and 8 can get free shots at the county
health department. The immunization is only effective within 14
days of infection.

Signs of infection appear two to six weeks after exposure and
can include mild fever, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and
other symptoms.
