NC Ferry System moves to off-season schedule

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) – Now that summer is officially over, the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry will soon begin its fall schedule.

Starting October 1, the Southport route will drop from 16 weekday round trips to 14. Weekend schedules will not be affected.

The NC Ferry System says over the next six weeks, several gradual changes will occur on four of the ferry system’s seven routes. In the Pamlico Sound, those routes will switch on Tuesday. The Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry will switch on October 11.

The Cherry Branch and Pamlico River routes do not change seasonally, and the Currituck-Knotts Island route remains on the same schedule throughout the school year.
