NC judge to look at help Edwards aide gave to feds

HILLSBOROUGH, NC (AP) — A North Carolina judge plans a hearing on whether a former John Edwards aide who wrote about the two-time presidential candidate’s extramarital affair violated a court order by sharing information with federal prosecutors.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that Superior Court Judge Mike Morgan ruled that lawyers for Edwards’s mistress Rielle Hunter had enough evidence to pursue criminal contempt charges against Andrew Young, his wife, and their attorneys.

Morgan stressed Monday he was only agreeing there was enough evidence to justify another hearing on the issue.

Federal prosecutors accuse Edwards of using political contributions to cover up the affair. Edwards denies the criminal charges.

Hunter’s state court lawsuit aims to reclaim from the Youngs a videotape that purportedly shows her having sex with Edwards.
