NC man charged with burying dog alive
SHELBY, NC (AP) — A Cleveland County man is facing animal cruelty charges after police say he tried to bury his dog alive.
The Shelby Star reports that 38-year-old Sean Davis of Kings Mountain was arrested Monday by sheriff’s deputies.
County Animal Control Supervisor Tripp Bowling says Davis had become convinced his dog had been poisoned.
Bowling says the man buried the German shepherd mix’s head in a shallow hole and packed its nose and mouth with dirt.
Animal control officers took the dog to a veterinarian, but it had to be euthanized. Bowling says the animal was too dehydrated to test whether it had been poisoned.
Davis is being held in the Cleveland County jail on a $10,000 bond. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
