NC Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls to join Wilmington faith leaders for riverfront conversation
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls will meet with Wilmington-area faith leaders Friday for a conversation focused on justice, equality and community.
The gathering will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Little Drum Landing, next to Elijah’s Restaurant at 2 Ann Street in downtown Wilmington.
Faith leaders from all religious backgrounds are invited to attend and engage in an open discussion with Earls about equal justice under the law and the role faith communities can play in promoting fairness and human dignity.
Earls has worked in civil rights for more than 30 years, focusing on issues including voting rights, fair housing and equal educational opportunities.
She previously served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division under President Bill Clinton. After returning to North Carolina, she worked alongside civil rights attorney Julius Chambers at the UNC Center for Civil Rights and later founded the Southern Coalition for Social Justice in 2007.
In a statement ahead of the event, Earls said her faith guides her commitment to treating people with dignity, fairness and compassion.
The gathering is intended to create an opportunity for Wilmington faith leaders to discuss shared values and issues affecting their congregations and the broader community.
