NC woman accused of pawning mother’s jewelry
LINCOLNTON, NC (AP) — Lincoln County authorities are accusing a woman of stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry from her mother and pawning it.
The Charlotte Observer reports that 27-year-old Kara Ilien Carpenter is charged with felony larceny,
possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretenses. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says Carpenter was arrested Monday and admitted to taking the jewelry.
The sheriff’s office says Carpenter’s mother told authorities she first thought she had misplaced some of her jewelry, but learned that her daughter may have taken it to a pawn shop in Denver. That shop said it paid more than $7,500 for the jewelry, which was valued at more than $10,000.
Carpenter is in the county jail under $10,000 bond. It wasn’t immediately known if she had an attorney.
