NCDOT reschedules Mount Misery Road closure

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A section of Mount Misery Road near Leland that was expected to be closed starting Monday has been rescheduled.

The section of the road, north of Lincoln Road Northeast, will be closed starting next Wednesday, June 13, for about three months to allow crews with the N.C. Department of Transportation to safely replace two metal drainage pipes with a reinforced concrete box culvert.

NCDOT says the new culvert will extend the life of the structures serving the Rowell Branch River.

During construction of the culvert, traffic on Mount Misery Road will be detoured to Interstate 140 and U.S. 74/76 in Wilmington. Lincoln Road Northeast will still be accessible from Mount Misery Road.

All ramps and loops for the new section of I-140 and Mount Misery Road will remain open to traffic.

NCDOT says the delay is because the contractor encountered a conflict with a utility in the construction area.

Construction is due to be done in September.
