New fire station coming to Shipyard Boulevard


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A multi-million dollar contract to build a new fire station on Shipyard Boulevard was approved by the Wilmington City Council Tuesday night.

The new 11,500 square foot station is part of a plan to reduce the number of city fire stations from 11 to 9. Replacing the station on Wellington Avenue and the station on Carolina Beach Road.

Construction is scheduled to begin in June.
