New Hanover Co. parents, students push for junior varsity lacrosse
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — About a hundred parents and students, many spinning lacrosse sticks, crowded the New Hanover County Board of Education meeting room tonight.
They were all there to rally for junior varsity lacrosse teams in New Hanover County high schools.
Lacrosse is the only varsity sport in the county that does not have a junior varsity team.
The group said the move would be good for students on and off the field.
“It’s helped him to be able to get energy out. As well as build friendships, and keeps him a little bit more focused, probably, on his schoolwork as well,” said Jaime Bentfield, parent of a lacrosse player.
Every member of the board expressed support for the move and said it would be considered at their next budget meeting.
