New Hanover County Board of Education adopts new ethics language for board members

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Board of Education met on Tuesday to discuss a number of items, including a policy for a Code of Ethics for School Board Members.
The policy outlines a new section about unethical and inappropriate acts.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, some board members disagreed about the additional language.
“These are all subject to interpretation they’re very vague and it just leaves a situation where this thing can be so vague so it’s left as a sword so that the actions of the majority can come after the board member or members that they don’t happen to like,” New Hanover County Board of Education member David Perry said.
“These are pretty common sense code of ethics,” New Hanover County Board of Education member Pat Bradford said. “I do not see them being ambiguous at all.”
The policy passed by a vote of 5 to 2.
