New Hanover County couple charged with insurance fraud

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin announced the arrest of Samuel James Spicer, 61, and Aletha Jinwright Spicer, 46, of Castle Hayne Thursday.

Department of Insurance criminal investigators said that the Spicers provided false and misleading information to CNA Insurance on Aug. 9, 2010, to support an injury claim against Carolina Restaurant Group on behalf of their 11-year-old son.

The Spicers turned themselves in to Pender County authorities on July 26. They were each charged with one count of insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, and placed under a $10,000 bond.
