New Hanover County hosts senior resource fair during Older Americans Month

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Dozens of health and senior service providers gathered Thursday at the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center for an annual resource fair focused on helping older adults connect with services and support.

The event was held in recognition of Older Americans Month and centered on health and wellness resources for adults ages 55 and older.

More than 40 local vendors participated, offering information on a range of services including in-home care assistance, senior living communities, end-of-life planning, death doulas and other resources aimed at supporting older adults and their families.

Emily Ford, community engagement specialist with the New Hanover County Senior Center, said the fair is designed to make navigating available services easier for residents.

“In terms of knowing your community and knowing what resources are even available to you, sometimes you don’t know where to start looking so coming here and finding out what is out there and getting to know what they do, if you are eligible, when to get started, it’s a really great opportunity,” Ford said.

Ford encouraged older adults to visit the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center, located at 2222 S. College Road, to learn more about local resources and support services available in the area.
