New Hanover County NAACP encourages early voting
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County NAACP wants to remind the community that early voting starts tomorrow in North Carolina.
The group says that after a July court decision, North Carolinians no longer need to worry about voter ID.
Wednesday was the last day to register to vote, but the NAACP wants to remind voters that for the next 17 days, you can register to vote at the same time with same-day registration.
The group does want to remind you that you must have proof of residence if you are doing same-day registration.
“The most important thing that that we want to convey is we need everybody to get out and vote,” NAACP Religious Affairs Director Kojo Nantambu said. “This is a very critical election. It is probably one of the most critical elections since, I would say, Abraham Lincoln.”
The group is encouraging all voters to march with them at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the intersection of 5th and Red Cross streets to a polling location on Second Street.
If you have already voted by then, you can still go and celebrate the right to vote.
