New Hanover County schools see over-, under-crowding

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (StarNews) — Fifteen minutes before the bell rang, the parent pick-up line at Noble Middle School stretched down Blair School Drive, all the way to Market Street.

That crush of cars is a fact of life at Noble, which this year is more than 220 students over capacity. Between the main building and four mobile classrooms, the school has room for 640 students; as of Tuesday 866 were enrolled.

Across town at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy, pickup and dropoff times are markedly calmer. With just 172 children in its classrooms this year and room for 327 more, it is 66 percent under capacity.
