CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — As hurricane season continues, New Hanover County is encouraging residents to prepare before severe weather threatens the coast.

The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center will host a free Disaster & Hurricane Preparedness presentation on Wednesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. at the Carolina Beach Satellite Nutrition Site.

The presentation will be led by New Hanover County Emergency Management Specialist Alan Brook, who will provide practical guidance on how residents can prepare for hurricanes and other disasters.

Topics will include preparing a home for severe weather, assembling an emergency supply kit, creating a family emergency plan, and understanding how to stay safe before, during, and after a storm.

County officials encourage residents not to wait until a hurricane is approaching to make preparations. Taking proactive steps now can help families respond more effectively during emergencies and reduce potential risks.

The event is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend to learn more about protecting themselves, their families, and their property throughout hurricane season.
