New Hanover deputies bust video gambling parlor

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says its Vice and Narcotics Unit busted an illegal gambling operation. It’s the second bust of its kind this year.

After a two-week, undercover investigation deputies executed a search warrant this afternoon at the Carolina Winery at 2824 Suite 6 Carolina Beach Rd. Detectives say the business has been operating illegal gambling machines.

Investigators confiscated more than a dozen machines were confiscated and cited Mary Hitt Woodie, 56, for operating/conducting a server-based electronic game.

“Once they recognized that the law has changed and we were enforcing it, a lot of owners did the right thing,” Capt. D.A. Ciamillo said. “Those that didn’t we’re going to pursue.”
