New Hanover earns first win of season with 26-6 victory over Purnell Sweat

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover picked up its first win of the season Friday, defeating Purnell Sweat 26-6 at Legion Stadium.
The Wildcats entered the game 0-1 after opening the season against New Bern.
New Hanover won the previous three meetings between the teams, including a 41-0 victory last season.
New Hanover took control early. Senior quarterback Ronan Baker connected with junior wide receiver Damonte Hill on a deep pass to help set the tone, leading to a field goal.
Junior defensive end Jayden George then blocked a punt that resulted in a safety, giving the Wildcats a 5-0 lead.
On the following drive, running back Isaiah McIntosh scored on a run up the middle, extending New Hanover’s lead to 12-0.
The Wildcats added to their advantage when junior running back Messiah Brockington scored on a run to the outside, and Max Henderson added another score on a short pass.
New Hanover went on to win 26-6, improving to 1-1 on the season.
