The “Take Our Seat at the Table: Family Literacy Summit and Youth Basketball Camp” is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center at 401 S. 8th Street.

Organizers say the event will focus on literacy, academic achievement and youth development. Activities are expected to include free books, food, educational resources, family activities and basketball.

The event is free and open to the public.

Youth who want to participate in the basketball camp must complete an application and required documentation. They must also attend the Family Literacy Summit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a parent or guardian.

The NAACP New Hanover County Branch says the event is intended to connect families with educational resources while also offering recreational opportunities for young people.
