New Hanover Regional Medical Center earns national recognition for pediatric care

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center has been ranked No. 3 among 89 participating pediatric hospitals in the 2026 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award cohort.

The award is presented by Vizient, Inc., which evaluates hospital performance and compares participating health systems on measures related to quality and patient safety.

Novant Health said the recognition is based on data from the Vizient Clinical Data Base, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network.

The 2026 awards are based on performance data collected from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

Physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and other care teams at Novant Health Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital were recognized as part of the ranking.

“This marks the second consecutive year our physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and care teams have been nationally recognized for expert pediatric care,” said Dr. Michael Jaskolka, clinical physician executive for children’s services for the Novant Health Coastal Region.

The hospital provides pediatric inpatient and intensive care, as well as a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit. Surgical services include general pediatric and thoracic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, cleft and craniofacial surgery and pediatric urology.

The hospital also offers private patient rooms, family spaces and child life programs.

Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center was also recognized in the 2025 award cycle, according to the health system.
