New Hanover Wildcats win state championship
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The New Hanover High School boys basketball team rallied from a last minute deficit Saturday night to win a state championship for the first time in 39 years.
The Wildcats won the 4A state championship game 39 to 35 against Zebulon Vance in Chapel Hill.
Seven-footer Ty Walker was the game’s MVP; he finished with 12 points and eight blocks.
Senior guard James Beatty hit the go ahead shot with about a minute to play.
After a couple of years of just falling short of reaching to title game the cats get to Chapel Hill this year and bring another title back to Wilmington.
