New principal named at Cape Fear Elementary School
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — On Thursday, a new principal will take over at Cape Fear Elementary School.
According to a news release, the Pender County Board of Education has hired David Kirkland to take over the helm.
Kirkland holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, master’s degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Education Specialist degree from Gardner Webb University and is currently working on a doctorate at Gardner Webb University.
Kirkland’s experience includes serving as a teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal.
“I’m going to make sure we put things in place that will increase student achievement,” Kirkland said. “Cape Fear Elementary is currently a ‘B’ school and my goal is to strive for an ‘A,’ meeting the needs of all students and growing them so they are successful in the short term and the long term as they continue through their academic careers.”
Kirkland currently lives in Winston-Salem. He will start February 1.
Charles Langley is serving as interim principal until then.
