Nearly a year after the story about GenX broke, some fears have been calmed, while others still remain.
On June 7th, the Starnews broke the story about GenX in the Cape Fear River. As the region learned about this compound from the Chemours chemical plant near Fayetteville in the drinking water supply, citizens wanted answers.
As worries about GenX in the region's water supply continue, WWAY and its media partners are holding another forum; this time to address concerns in Brunswick County.
He says the reason we haven't seen how GenX affects the marine life is because the chemical could just be sitting in the fish, like with mercury.
There are still plenty of questions about GenX in the area's drinking water, but there are far more answers after WWAY, the StarNews and WHQR hosted a GenX Forum Wednesday night.
WWAY News, StarNews Media and HQR News 91.3 are sponsoring a GenX Forum Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at UNCW's Kenan Auditorium.
The Cape Fear River Watch is hosting its own community forum Wednesday night to discuss GenX.
Until more is known about this chemical, one UNCW biology professor and a local engineer will not drink tap water after the discovery of GenX.
