NHSO investigating armed robbery

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery early Thursday morning.

According to Lt. Jerry Brewer it happened around 1 a.m. at the Handee Hugo gas station at 5629 Carolina Beach Road. The store clerk says she heard someone come into the gas station. She says a black man with a sharp object in his hand demanded she open the register. He took an unknown amount of money and ran away.

The suspect is described as a skinny black male in his late 20s. He was wearing dark jeans, a black jacket, and a white t-shirt around his face.

The canine unit searched the area, but was unable to find the suspect. Detectives are still investigating at this time.
