VICTIMS NAMED: NHCSO investigating double homicide in Middle Sound area

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double homicide.

It happened in the Middle Sound area of New Hanover County, at a home located in the front of Providence neighborhood in the 6000 block of Providence Road.

The two deceased victims have been identified as Koredreese Robert Tyson a 29-year-old male and validated gang member and Bri-yanna Emily Williams a 21-year-old female.

A third female victim was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and as of Sunday she is still in the hospital.

Authorities are saying early this morning they received a call saying shots were fired.

The 911 call came from inside the home, where the incident occurred.

Providence residents say they never thought an incident like this would happen in their neighborhood.

”This is a very close knit community here, in our subdivision. So, I’m very shocked, and saddened to hear of such tragedy,” said Jeanine Stewart, Providence Resident.

“We’ve been here three years, Providence is extremely laid back. You know, something like this is really out of the ordinary. Although, the more I think about it, the times are so crazy now, that I don’t know if I’m really surprised by anything anymore,” Jim Slivka, Providence resident.

The home where the double homicide occurred is located in the front of Providence neighborhood, one resident said it’s hard to miss.

“That house,–the way it’s located right at the entrance way. My take on it is there were a lot of folks coming and going all of the time. Very unlike any other house in this neighborhood,” said Slivka.

Although New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says this incident is believed to be isolated, one neighbor said she believes the community will still be shaken by it.

“Especially if they don’t know who did it or what transpired. So, we will all be on guard, but I still feel, you know, pretty safe in our subdivision. We have a close community watch here, and lot of our homeowner’s association does a good job communicating that with the home owners, letting us know what to watch out for,” said Stewart.

According to tax records, the home belongs to George Taylor III, founder and COO of TRU Colors Brewing. He is not one of the shooting victims.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone who may have information pertaining to this incident to contact them.

“Not only do we have CSI detectives here at the house, we have other areas that they’re investigating. Obviously, notifying families, gathering information, gathering videos. So, it’s a large investigation, obviously with two homicides, that’s a big issue. So, all hands are on deck, and everyone’s working now,” said NHCSO Lt. Jerry Brewer.

Further updates will be made as details become available.
