NHSO: Man jumped into Snow’s Cut to escape deputies after traffic stop

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man has been charged after leading sheriff’s deputies on an intense search late Thursday night.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies spotted four men around 10:30 p.m. sitting in a truck in Snow’s Cut Park located off River Road.

Deputies thought it appeared suspicious since the park closes at 8:00 p.m. nightly.

While questioning the men, NHSO says one took off running and jumped into the water at Snow’s Cut.

Using the SABLE air unit, sheriff’s deputies arrested the man as he was getting out of the water about an hour and half after the search began.

The sheriff’s office says Jose Willie Arce-Olivas had less than an ounce of marijuana and was charged with drug possession.
