The executive director of a nonprofit charter school advocacy group has filed a complaint with the N.C. State Ethics Commission against Baker Mitchell, founder of several charter schools in Southeastern North Carolina.

Eddie Goodall, the executive director of the N.C. Public Charter Schools Association, alleges in his complaint that Mitchell violated the state ethics act by using his role on the state Charter School Advisory Board to "(enhance) his own business interest."

Goodall filed the complaint against Mitchell on May 23. He also filed a similar complaint against Paul Norcross, who founded Phoenix Academy charter school in High Point in 2000. The State Ethics Commission has 20 days to respond to the complaints.
