Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — Novant Health has opened a new clinic in Wilmington focused on preventative neurological care and identifying risk factors that could affect patients’ long-term brain health.

Novant Health Preventative Neurology is located at 2221 S. 17th St. The clinic focuses on early evaluation, education and lifestyle changes aimed at addressing risk factors associated with conditions including stroke and cognitive decline.

Services include cognitive and dementia risk assessments, screening and management of brain health risk factors, nutrition and exercise guidance and recommendations involving sleep and other lifestyle factors. Optional genetic risk testing is also available.

Carolina McCalmon, a neurology physician assistant at the clinic, said advances in neurological care are creating more opportunities to identify risk factors and intervene before neurological diseases affect a patient’s quality of life.

“We are in the midst of a transformation in Alzheimer’s care, and neurology is at the forefront of this evolving approach,” McCalmon said. “Advances in treatment are creating new opportunities for prevention and early intervention.”

The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Novant Health says the clinic is expected to move to the Novant Health Midtown Medical Plaza at 3601 Converse Road in Wilmington in 2027.
