Numerous gang members arrested in gang crackdown
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is targeting gang members in response to an increase in gang activity. Since September, deputies have made numerous drug arrests.
Case #1

On September 13, the sheriff’s office arrested three validated gang members while investigating a drive-by shooting on Grathwol Drive that injured a bystander. Wilmington police stopped a blue SUV carrying Veshon Shaw, 23, Nasir Leonard, 16, and Jaquaries Washington, 17. Inside the SUV, they found two handguns, 65 bags of heroin and more than 20 grams of marijuana. A search warrant at Leonard’s home on Reed Court resulted in investigators finding 500 bags of heroin and more than 500 grams of marijuana. Leonard, Shaw and Washington all face multiple drugs charges. They are each in jail under a $1 million bond.

On September 19, deputies arrested gang member, Deandre Sweet, 25, on Market Street during a joint investigation with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and Gang Unit. Deputies say Sweet had 500 bags of heroin with him. He faces several drug charges. His bond is set at $3 million.

On September 21, Khaleel Dajour Truesdale, 20, was arrested during a joint investigation with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and Gang Unit. Deputies say during the arrest, Truesdale tried to drive off in a car and ended up hitting a detectives vehicle. Truesdale faces several drug charges and parole violations. He is in jail under a $10 million bond.

On October 19, Rashawn Herbert Hines, 22, was arrested during a joint operation involving North Carolina Probation and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit. The investigation took place in the 800 block of South 13th St. in Wilmington. Deputies say Hines had more than 150 grams of crack cocaine, a 9mm handgun and over 170 grams of marijuana in his possession. Hines faces drug and possession of a firearm by a felon charges. He is in jail on a $1 million bond.
