Oak Island Fire Department hosting two Fire Prevention Week events Thursday

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Oak Island Fire Department will host two community events Thursday as part of National Fire Prevention Week.

The first event, Heroes & Homeschool, begins at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the 801 Ocean Event Center, located at 801 Ocean Drive.

The event is geared toward homeschool groups with elementary-aged children and will focus on fire prevention, safety and what children should do in the event of a fire.

Later Thursday, the department will host its annual See You At The Station open house from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fire Station 2, located at 8510 E. Oak Island Drive.

The open house will give community members an opportunity to meet Oak Island firefighters, tour the station and get a hands-on look at equipment used by the department.

Both events are being held as part of National Fire Prevention Week.

Additional information about the events is available through the Town of Oak Island’s events calendar.
