Oak Island residents advised of scheduled mosquito fogging operations
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Oak Island will conduct mosquito fogging operations on Wednesday and Thursday, July 29-30, as crews work to reduce growing mosquito populations.
According to the town’s Public Works Department, fogging is scheduled to begin at approximately 6 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
The treatment schedule includes:
- Wednesday, July 29: Zones 1 and 2, covering all areas west of East 40th Street.
- Thursday, July 30: Zones 3 and 4, covering all areas east of East 41st Street, including the mainland.
Town officials said the mosquito management operations are being performed in accordance with standards set by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the North Carolina Pesticide Board.
Residents are asked not to approach or stop the mosquito management vehicle during operations. Officials said the fog, or mist, typically dissipates within five to 30 minutes after treatment.
The town also noted that verified beekeepers registered through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Apiary Program are eligible for exemptions from fogging operations.
Officials emphasized that the schedule is subject to change, as treatments depend on weather conditions and wind forecasts. Operations may be delayed, canceled or rescheduled if conditions are unfavorable.
