Ocean View: Town has chance to buy pier, oceanfront property
HOLDEN BEACH, NC (AP) — The oceanfront community of Holden Beach has a chance to buy some beachfront property and a fishing pier.
The StarNews of Wilmington reports that 71-year-old Guilford Bass wants to retire after 35 years and sell his Holden Beach Fishing Pier.
Bass is giving the town first dibs on the pier and 300 feet of oceanfront property for $3.5 million.
Holden Beach Mayor Alan Holden says town officials will have to see what money is available for such a purchase. He says the beachfront property could be used by the town for parking.
Bass says if the town doesn’t want the property, he will open the sale to the public.
Holden Beach is on the North Carolina coast between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
