Oliver! the Musical kicks off this weekend at Thalian Hall

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you love live entertainment and are looking for something fun to do this weekend, you’re in luck.

Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington is presenting Oliver! the Musical.

WWAY stopped by rehearsals on Tuesday as the cast was preparing for the big show.

“It was my favorite musical even before I knew this show was going to happen,” said Garrett Reider, who is playing Oliver.

The musical is based on the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist.

When Garrett Reider found out he snagged the lead role he said, “I couldn’t think I was so happy! I was jumping around my house.”

He’s not alone. His fellow cast and crew members are excited about bringing the musical to the Wilmington community.

“I think this is a beautiful story,” said Jamie Nelson, who is playing Nancy. “I think families can bring kids of all ages and grandparents and everybody will find something they like in this show. There’s singing and dancing. And really sad moments and really happy moments. And we have a fabulous Oliver. A very brave and earnest little boy who carries this whole show and he’s just amazing.”

Rehearsal is in full swing as they prepare for the big night, and as Charles Dickens himself would say — It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

“Being on stage seeing all the faces in the crowd it’s so cool,” Reider said.

Reider said it will be the best of times for everyone who comes out!

The musical kicks off on the main stage of Thalian Hall Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Oliver! only runs this weekend and next weekend, so if you want to see the show you’ll want to get tickets now. They’re selling fast!
