ON THE ROADS: look out for Ironman competitors Saturday


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As the 9th annual Ironman North Carolina Beach to Battleship gets under way tomorrow, you need to pay extra attention on the roads and watch out for competitors.

The race will cause some temporary lane closures throughout the day. If at all possible, avoid the race areas, but law enforcement will be on hand to control traffic.

Here is a breakdown of the course and times you should expect closures and delays.

Bike section:

7 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Wrightsville Beach, Military Cutoff, and Market Street.

8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: I-140 westbound

9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: N.C. 210 in Pender County and the Isabel Holmes Bridge

Run course:

10:00 a.m. – 11 p.m.: U.S. 421 Truck (Front Street) in Wilmington and crossing U.S. 421 (3rd Street) at Greenfield Street.

During the race, drivers are encouraged to use I-40/U.S. 117 (College Road) instead of U.S. 421 or I-140.
