One-Day Blitz collects more than 9 tons of food for Salvation Army
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Once again the Wilmington community has set yet another record for generosity during WWAY’s Help for the Holidays One-Day Blitz to restock the Salvation Army’s food pantry.
The annual holiday event at Krispy Kreme on South College Road made easy work of last year’s record, when we collected more than 15,000 pounds of food for the Salvation Army. This year’s effort brought in an estimated 18,865 pounds of food and $2,628.15 in cash donations for the charity, which are both records for the One-Day Blitz.
The Salvation Army’s Maj. Richard Watts says that food will keep the food pantry’s shelves stocked well into spring and help hundreds of people in need in our community.
Thanks to everyone who came out today to help make sure countless families in our community have a Merry Christmas and beyond!
