ONLY ON 3: Bride hopes Irene doesn’t crash her wedding

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck, but what about a hurricane? Well, one Wilmington bride is still scheduled to have her wedding Saturday outside a home along the Intracoastal Waterway.

“Literally my first reaction was, ‘Nooo!,” Leigh Muscle said.

When Muscle found out Hurricane Irene’s predicted path was headed for the Port City, she looked to her fiancé for reassurance.

“He completely calmed me down, and then we just started thinking of all the different things we could do and all the different situations and started planning for them,” she said.

All the ingredients for a dream wedding are in place. Muscle plans to walk down the aisle in the front yard of her mother’s house and move guests to the back for the reception. The house sits right on the Intracoastal Waterway.

“As of now, it looks like it’s just going to be a little bit of rain and a little bit of wind, and it just looks like we need to move the event from outside to inside, so that’s what we’re planning,” Muscle said.

August 27 is a special date for the couple. It will be their third anniversary.

But with Irene threatening to rain on her parade, Muscle is preparing for the worst.

“We are not opposed to canceling the wedding,” she said.

This bride is wishing her perfect day isn’t clouded by the perfect storm.

“I put a Facebook quote up that said anyone who comes up with the best go away Irene song will be my friend forever,” Muscle said.

Muscle says all vendors helping out with the wedding are willing to accommodate if the event is cancelled or moved inside.
