Parsley Elementary sign repaired after vandalism

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County elementary school was vandalized Thursday night.

Walter L. Parsley Elementary School’s sign was defaced with red paint, saying things like “BLM,” “Change the Name,” and “Remember 1898.”

By early Friday afternoon, the signs had been repaired.

The name of the school has been in the news lately because of Walter Parsley’s involvement in the 1898 Wilmington Massacre.

Renaming the school was discussed at this month’s Board of Education meeting, but no decision was made yet. The board plans to discuss renaming the school at their meeting on August 4.
