Brothers charged in Pender Co. deadly shooting

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Deputies are investigating a shooting that left one man dead Thursday night off Hwy 117.

According to Capt. Rowell with the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to Church Street and US Hwy 117 North just before 9:30 p.m. for a car accident.

While investigating, officers found 23-year-old Deonte Jamal Pearsall of Willard, who had been shot. Capt. Rowell says efforts to save Pearsall’s life were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.

Pearsall was not involved in the car accident.

Two brothers, 20-year-old Austin Luke Young and 23-year-old Brett Adam Young, both of Teachey, were arrested at the scene without incident. They both are currently being held without bond at the Pender County Jail and are each charged with first degree murder.

Capt. Rowell says the one-car accident happened prior to the shooting. The car was found in a ditch. It belongs to the suspects.

We will have updates on this story as they become available.
