Pender County Schools seeks community input on future growth, school planning

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Pender County Schools is seeking input from families, staff and community members as the district plans for continued growth across the county.
The district is partnering with NC State University’s SchoolCAMP and OREd teams to provide technical support, data analysis and community engagement during the planning process.
The effort will examine student assignment boundaries, future school facility needs and other methods to address increasing enrollment and growth in communities across Pender County.
Community survey
Pender County Schools will launch a Community Priorities Survey on Sept. 7.
The survey will give residents an opportunity to identify challenges they believe the district should address, values that should guide future planning and factors that should be considered when evaluating potential solutions.
The survey will be available through Sept. 18 on the Pender County Schools website.
According to the district, individual responses will be combined and summarized by SchoolCAMP for the Pender County Board of Education and the community.
Names and identifying information will not be shared outside SchoolCAMP staff assigned to the project. Email addresses will be collected only to prevent duplicate submissions, according to the district.
Community forums
The district will also hold two community forums to share information and give residents additional opportunities to participate.
Both forums will begin at 6 p.m. at Topsail High School on:
- Tuesday, Sept. 29
- Thursday, Nov. 19
The forums will also be streamed live on the Pender County Schools YouTube channel for those who cannot attend in person.
Additional information about the planning process and timeline is available on the Pender County Schools website.
