PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Pender County officials will break ground next month on a new library in Hampstead, marking a major investment in community resources for the fast-growing area.
A ceremony for the new Hampstead Branch Library is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. Community members, local leaders, and project partners are invited to attend.
The planned 20,000-square-foot facility will be designed by Sawyer Sherwood and Associate in collaboration with ReThinking Libraries and constructed by Daniels and Daniels. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
County leaders say the new library will offer expanded space, modern amenities, and enhanced resources tailored to the needs of the community. Plans include a larger children’s area with an expanded collection, a dedicated teen space, two large meeting rooms, and eight private study rooms for individuals and groups.
The facility will also feature a semi-covered outdoor courtyard designed for reading, gatherings, and programming.
Officials noted that the design reflects feedback gathered from residents through surveys and in-person sessions, which highlighted the need for more youth-focused spaces, flexible programming areas, and accessible community meeting options.
More information and updates on the project are available through the Pender County Public Library system’s website.
