Peters Triplets continue track journey together at Guilford College

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — For years, the Peters triplets have shared nearly every step of their track and field journey together. Now, they are preparing to continue that path at the collegiate level.

Kaleah, Kateria, and Kalaia Peters attend Wilmington Early College High School, and compete for Laney High School.

In addition, the sisters participate in Port City Track Club, a local youth sports organization that encourages children and young adults to stay active through track and field.

The triplets said competing together has helped strengthen their bond over the years.

“It sort of gives us a place that we can go to, where we have fun together,” one of the sisters said. “It’s not necessarily something we have to do every day, but it’s a big part of our lives, so being able to do it together makes it more fun and more enjoyable.”

The Peters have been apart of Port City Track Club since they were around six years old. Co-founder Roderick Bell said he has watched them grow both on and off the track.

“We’ve been coaching them since they were knee-high to a grasshopper, around 11 or 12 years,” Bell said. “That’s what it’s all about, to see the growth in them as they grow through track and field.”

The Peters said competing alongside their sisters has advantages that competing alongside normal teammates doesn’t have.

“I think us being with each other a lot has only brought us closer,” one sister said. “We know things about each other that others wouldn’t know, and that helps me understand these two better and helps them understand me better.”

That connection will continue at the next level. The triplets have committed to run track at Guilford College, where the program competes at the NCAA Division III level.

“We’re just really excited going to Guilford College … We love the campus, and we’re excited to see the community there.”

While it is uncommon to see triplets continue competing together in college at the same school and in the same sport, the Peters sisters said they appreciate the opportunity to continue sharing the experience together.
