Piedmont Natural Gas awards $10,000 grant to support hunger relief in Cape Fear region
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Wilmington has received a $10,000 grant to support hunger relief efforts across the Cape Fear region.
The grant was awarded by Piedmont Natural Gas through the Duke Energy Foundation and will help provide food assistance programs in Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover and Pender counties.
According to Piedmont Natural Gas, the funding will help the Food Bank at Wilmington provide an estimated 30,000 meals, connect residents with food assistance resources and support a network of 86 community partners and 139 hunger relief programs.
“When we work together to meet essential needs, we create stronger communities and more opportunities for people to succeed,” Piedmont Natural Gas President Emily Henson said. “The Food Bank plays a critical role in supporting our neighbors across southeastern North Carolina, and Piedmont is proud to help expand that impact.”
Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina President and CEO Amy Beros said the funding comes as demand for food assistance continues to increase.
“We are truly grateful for the critical resources our partners provide – especially as the cost of living and demand for food assistance continue to climb,” Beros said. “This generous support from Piedmont Natural Gas allows us to nourish more people in the Cape Fear region today.”
The Duke Energy Foundation provides philanthropic support to communities where Duke Energy customers live and work.
Piedmont Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Duke Energy, provides natural gas service to more than 1 million residential, commercial, industrial and power generation customers in North Carolina and South Carolina.
