Play for Emily raises over $100,000

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 7th annual “Play for Emily” took place on Monday at the Landfall Country Club. When Emily Ann Wade was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, Emily and her family were helped out by the Ronald McDonald House Charity.

After Emily’s untimely death, the family wished to preserved the bond and repay a fraction of what they received.

Emily’s father, Happy Wade, said “at the end of the day we’re praying and crossing our fingers. We’re actually going to pay out over 100-thousand dollars this year for our first time ever, getting that 6 figure mark”.

Former Major League Baseball player and 5th Quarter co-host Trot Nixon said about the event, “I’m honored and glad to be able to help out any way, shape or form that I can, and look forward to many more years raising more money to the Ronald McDonald House.>

This year the tournament raised just over $100,000. That money goes to the Ronald McDonald Houses of Eastern North Carolina.
