Players, fans enjoy Wells Fargo Championship in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  The Wells Fargo Championship was in Wilmington for the first time ever and it was a hole in one.

Thousands of people came out every single day while others only came for the weekend, but that hasn’t changed their enjoyment.

“We came out Thursday, the first day of the competition, and it wasn’t quite this crowded, but it was fun. Saw a lot of local people, and I think it’s a great event for the community,” Laura Midgett, from Wilmington, said.

“I really enjoyed following around the golfers, just like, one by one, so you can see how they all play differently. I just don’t really experience golf a lot, so it’s just a good experience,” Margaret Painter, from Raleigh, said.

For some people, this was their first time ever attending a golf tournament and has introduced them to a brand new experience.

“A lot of my friends, this is the first time they’ve been to a golf tournament, myself included. So, this is a new experience and was very excited and i love it. I think it’s a great thing that has come to Wilmington and I hope it comes back,” Laura Baer, from Wilmington, said.

Players like J.T. Poston had never been to Wilmington before, but said his experience was unbelievable.

“Growing up and watching it in Charlotte, I’ve always envisioned myself playing in it there. But to be honest, I mean, it’s been incredible here. Golf course is definitely a championship style golf course and a lot of guys have enjoyed it. I haven’t heard a single person say a bad thing about it,” Poston said.

As the tournament comes to a close, memories are made at Eagle Point Golf Club.
