Police: 80-year-old man robbed, beaten, then left for hours in canal

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The Whiteville Police Department is investigating after they say an 80-year-old man was beaten, robbed, and then left in a canal for several hours.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office notified the police department a man with severe head injuries was found just east of Hallsboro on Friday.

The victim was robbed before being assaulted and left in a canal on a rural road, according to police.

The victim was taken to the hospital.
