Police: Bladenboro officer burned while responding to fire at home

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A police officer was burned by flames during a fire that left a family without a home in Bladen County Wednesday night, according to the Bladenboro Police Department.

Police said around 6 p.m. a Bladenboro police officer responded to the fire. They said when the officer got the home and opened the door, flames shot through, burning the officer’s face.

Bladenboro Police said that officer was taken to the hospital after suffering minor burns. The fire marshal said he has since been released.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but the Red Cross will help the family.

The fire marshal said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
